Systems Metabolic Engineering of Microorganisms

报告摘要 

Sustainability and good health are important objectives for society. To achieve these, microorganisms can be utilized to produce a variety of essential products, such as bulk chemicals, fine chemicals, fuels, materials, and natural products. However, natural microorganisms often lack the efficiency needed for optimal production. This is where metabolic engineering comes in, enhancing microorganisms' performance by modifying their metabolic pathways. To further unlock microbial potential, systems metabolic engineering is employed. This integrated approach combines traditional metabolic engineering with systems biology, synthetic biology, and evolutionary engineering. In this lecture, I will outline strategies in systems metabolic engineering to develop efficient microbial cell factories. I will also highlight engineered microbial strains designed to produce various products, including bulk chemicals, polymers, and pharmaceuticals. Systems metabolic engineering will play a crucial role in advancing sustainability and health.


主讲人简介

Sang Yup Lee教授是韩国科学技术院副校长,韩国科学技术院、韩国工程院、中国工程院、美国科学院、美国工程院、英国皇家学会等13个国家级科学院或工程院的院士或外籍院士,是全球唯一一位同时获得美国科学院外籍院士、美国工程院外籍院士和英国皇家学会外籍院士殊荣的科学家。Lee教授开创了系统代谢工程领域,将系统生物学、合成生物学和进化工程与代谢工程相结合,通过综合考虑上游、中游和下游工艺,实现了工业生物炼制微生物细胞工厂的更高效开发。开发了许多系统代谢工程重要平台技术,在全球学术界和工业界广泛应用,包括计算策略、基于深度学习的酶功能预测和转录因子、合成小RNA敲除工具、CRISPR工具、电子通道、C1化合物利用以及其他传感器、操作子、表观遗传、抗噬菌体、纳米材料生物合成和分室工程等技术。已成功生产100多种化学品,包括大宗化学品、精细化学品、聚合物、燃料和天然化合物等,迄今为止是生物合成化合物最多的科学家,许多化合物是国际首次或生物合成效率国际领先。发表800多项专利、91本书/章节和700余篇论文,包括Nature (1)Nat. Biotechnol. (9)Nat. Catal. (4)Nat. Rev. Chem. (4)Nat. Chem. Biol. (6)PNAS (21)等,H因子138,引用70,900余次(Google Scholar)。受邀做学术报告625次,大众媒体认可报道5213次。
